7 Quick Takes Friday

1)  Pray for those who have been killed after the Batman premiere in Denver.  Twelve people are dead, including children, and 38 have been injured.

2)  High temp records have been broken all across the country.  This is making the drought worse.  Fewer crops mean higher prices which will tighten the economy more.

3)  The mosaic to the right is part of a mural in the Byzantine chapel at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.  It shows steel being poured and symbolizes the Byzantine Catholics who immigrated to Pittsburgh.

4)  My son's father-in-law has gotten a second opinion regarding his cancer.  Some of the spots may not be cancerous and others may be shrinking, so there is still hope.  Please continue to pray for him.

5)  My grandson may come early!!!!  My daughter-in-law is measuring ahead and the baby will be "big".  We are SO excited to meet him!!!

6)  I'm on a diet--day 1, today.  Pray for me!!

7)  Military members have been given a this-year-only exception to be able to wear their uniforms in San Diego's gay pride parade.  Normally, service members are not allowed to wear their uniforms to any political event unless they get permission.  I think this sets an unfortunate precedent and weakens the no-uniform rule.

Molly Update

The doctors have discovered that Molly has Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia otherwise known as Osler-Weber Rendu Syndrome. With Molly, this manifests itself in Pulmonary Hypertension which is very rare.

Her family is devastated at this new news, although this doesn't change much immediately for Molly.

She did a CPAP trial and handled it well. She will get a Trach and G Tube in on Monday and they are talking about moving her, eventually, to rehab to help her regain skills lost by the brain damage she's suffered.

Please continue to pray for Molly and her family as they endure this suffering.

Molly Update--Prayers Needed

Molly has Vaculitis which is an autoimmune issue. She's going to be put on a drug they use for chemo.  She also has inflammation and her blood sugar levels are high.  They are going to paralyze and sedate her again so the machine can do her breathing for her.

Please storm heaven!

Edited to add:  They are doing a tracheotomy and putting in a G-tube for feeding.  Also, the family has had a discussion with the doctors about "when enough is enough."

Please keep them in your prayers.

Molly Update--Big Day Tomorrow

Molly has been having her Novalung turned off little by little and over all has been doing well.  She has been on steroids which have kept her awake and agitated.

Today she squeezed the nurse's hand when asked for the first time!

Tomorrow she goes under general anesthesia and intubation to have the Novalung removed completely.  Please pray that she handles this operation well and that her body can breathe on its own and that she can become strong enough to undergo a transplant, or strong enough not to need one.

Fr. Theodore Foley, pray for her!!

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Theodore Foley, C.P.

Many people are praying to Fr. Foley for a miracle for Molly. Please join us in a Novena until Molly is healed.

Lord Jesus Christ, you called Father Theodore Foley to follow you as a Passionist Priest even to Calvary's heights. Through your Immaculate and Sorrowful Mother, you taught him obedience to your Father's will and the fulfillment of your Commandment of loving God and neighbor. Let the loving inspiration of your servant move us to live a more profound life of virtue. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Theodore Foley according to the designs of your holy will. through his intercession, we ask you to grant the request I now present (healing and a Miracle for Molly). Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

(Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father)

Molly Update

Molly's mom tells us that by tomorrow doctors at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital will make a decision on whether to wean Molly from the Novalung she has implanted.

The hope in all of this, she says, is that she can come off the Novalung safely, her lungs and heart and all of her other vital organs will do their jobs and she'll improve neurologically.

Without successful weaning from the Novalung, Molly will not be eligible for a transplant, and her body risks fatal infection if the Novalung remains in much longer.

The doctors tell her they don't know what will happen and they don't know what the best decision is.

Please pray hard for Molly's recovery and for God's will to be done in this situation.

Prayers requested

I wanted to update you on Molly and ask for more prayers.  Molly is a little girl who passed out on her first day of Kindergarten because of undiagnosed pulmonary hypertension.   She experienced cardiac arrest and, as it is now known, had a stroke.  This has left her between a coma and wakefulness.  She is getting occupational therapy and music therapy and is responding slowly, but doctors now say she has extensive brain damage from the stroke.  This is on top of her need for a lung transplant.  She is in Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh with her parents.  Her twin sister and older brother are home in Delaware.  This is very hard on her entire family.

The family is praying to Father Theodore Foley, a candidate for sainthood, for a miracle for Molly.

I would also like to ask you for prayers for a family member of mine, M, who is being tested for Lupus, Lyme disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis and is quite scared.

Prayers Desperately Needed for Molly!

Please pray for this sweet little girl.   She is a friend of my cousin's daughter.
On her first day of kindergarten, she passed out at school and was later diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension.

She is now in Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, too sick for the heart-lung transplant she so desperately needs.  She's been on a heart-lung bypass machine, but can not stay on it indefinitely as it will weaken the rest of her organs.  They've done surgery where the doctors have put a small hole in her heart, to relieve the pressure, but so far, efforts to wean her from the machine have been unsuccessful.

This morning she is to have further surgery to implant a Novalung, which is something normally done on adults. The hope is to strengthen her for a heart-lung transplant.

At this point, her family is praying for a miracle.  They have spoken to a Passionist priest who is officially petitioning a new candidate for beatification, Father Theodore Foley, for a miracle for Molly.

Molly's Caring Bridge site is here.  Please stop by and offer a caring word to her family.

Also, there are many fund raisers going on for Molly's family.  If you feel so moved, please choose a way to offer financial support.

Urgent Prayers Needed

I wanted to ask you to pray hard for my friend, Ed, and his family. He has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. There had been no prognosis yet, but statistically, pancreatic cancer is one of the most devastating of all cancers.

Eighty percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer, for example, are alive after five years. For those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, fewer than four percent survive for 5 years. There is no routine screening test for pancreatic cancer and the symptoms are vague.

My aunt died of pancreatic cancer as did my grandfather. Patrick Swayze, Steve Jobs and Ruth Bader Ginzberg all were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Please pray for my friend and for all those who have pancreatic cancer, and for their families.

Special Intention

Please pray for my family. We are in the process of moving my mother into a full time care facility. Besides being a difficult decision for us, this will be virtually intolerable for her twin sister who currently lives with her and refuses to move, This makes it all the more difficult for those of us who are left with the task of facilitating this move.

Thank you all very much.

More Prayers Needed

Photobucket

There are so many people who need prayers right now. My friend was compiling a list and I realized how many of these people are close to me. Please lift them up in prayer, if you could.

Edited to add: I just heard from my sister. The prognosis is not good for my brother in law. Please pray hard for him.

At What Price Greed?

Please pray for the WalMart employee who was trampled to death by a crowd of shoppers who had pushed through sliding glass doors in a frenzy of "black Friday" hysteria five minutes before the store's advertised 5:00am opening.

After banging with their fists and pushing, the doors shattered, and the crowd of more than 2,000 rushed into the store for their "must haves" for the "holiday season". The six employees who were trying to keep the doors shut, couldn't hold out against the crowd.

After Jdimytai Damour, a 34 year old temporary employee, was thrown to the floor, the mob continued to run over and around him, ignoring his gasps. After emergency personnel came to the scene, shoppers continued to rush past, as the EMTs tried in vain to save the man.

Sunday begins the season of Advent. Let's remember what the real meaning of "the season" is--Jesus, not greed. Inner (and sometimes outer) poverty for the sake of the Kingdom.

Note: The holy card is from Holy Cards for Your Inspiration. The French is translated as follows:
Top: "Dreams of Youth"
In the beam of light:"And then afterwards ..."
At the bottom:
"O God, divert my heart from vanity!
... Show me your truth, that sun shining past everything which slips away."

Prayers for the people in India

Please pray for all the recent victims of terrorism in Mumbai, India. Along with people from India, the victims included some from The United States, Great Britain and Japan.

The image, "Mother of India," is from Holy Cards for your Inspiration.

Pray for Our Country Today

Let's send up a special prayer for America in this election season--not only for the election itself, but for all the candidates and all the voters that we may live in peace together throughout this sometimes contentious election season.

Urgent special intention

Could you all please pray for a friend of mine? Her son is severely depressed--possibly suicidal, her daughter is very frightened and emotionally fragile, and her husband is due to visit his aging mother overnight tonight.

St. Dymphna, patroness of those who suffer from mental illnesses, pray for them!

St. Dymphna, we beg you to beg God for consolation and strength for our suffering brothers and sisters.

Jesus, we trust in you!

~Amen

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
