Art and Beauty Tuesday--Don Saco

This bronze sculpture is Jacob Wrestling with the Angel by Don Saco.

It is 19 inches high and done in bronze.

I love the amazing movement that he gets in this piece.  The Angel seems to be suspended in mid-air--it is easy to forget he is attached to Jacob's arms.

I also love the way Jacob is caught off-balance by his wrestling.  Faith is not a carefree thing to navigate and we all have our periods of wrestling with God--asking questions--and feeling off-balance.  Saco captures this feeling perfectly in this sculpture.

I love how you explain the art and link it to our Faith.

Barbara, I also love the way our friend here at Dymphna's Well explains thigs too. :) I think alot of people wrestle with their faith at times. for some, they have a "dark night of the soul".

i used to wrestle with my faith at times. but I never let go of God. for that, I thank my mom as an example of how badly someone can suffer, and manage to stay true to their faith no matter how bad the odds are stacked against you.

thanks mom.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
