Poetry Wednesday--Jakushitsu

Living in the Mountains
by Jakushitsu Genko (1290-1367)

Neither seeking fame
nor grieving my poverty
I hide deep in the mountain
far from worldly dust.

Year ending
cold sky
who will befriend me?

Plum blossom on a new branch
wrapped in moonlight

Oh, I would love to see a plum blossom in moonlight. I have seen buds on the trees. Spring is coming!

Your word verification is: lenti ... makes me yearn for some of your warm homemade lentiL soup. : )

Isn't that a gorgeous image? I imagine it to be plum-colored, although I'm sure it isn't. But a plum-colored blossom in the moonlight would be a beautiful painting!

You are more than welcome to come visit. I can make you some soup with delicious and beautiful yellow lentils.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
