This is the Great Lenten Prayer of St. Ephram from the Eastern Church.  It focuses on asking God for the grace to embody the virtues and take away sinfulness.

I love both the words and the chant. I could be equally at home with the Byzantine liturgy as I am with the Extraordinary Form of the Latin liturgy.

I love eastern theology.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
