Music Monday--Z. Randall Stroope

Today's Music Monday once again features Z. Randall Stroope. In Time of Silver Rain is a poem by Langston Hughes that Stroope set to music.

The original poem is below.

In Time of Silver Rain
By Langston Hughes

In time of silver rain
The earth
Puts forth new life again,
Green grasses grow
And flowers lift their heads,
And over all the plain
The wonder spreads

Of life,
of life,
of life!

In time of silver rain
The butterflies
Lift silken wings
To catch a rainbow cry,
And trees put forth
New leaves to sing
In joy beneath the sky
As down the roadway
Passing boys and girls
Go singing, too,
In time of silver rain

When spring
And life
Are new.

Interesting listening to this song and reading the poem as my trees are heavy laden with snow. Sometimes the current season seems to last forever, other times it goes by so fast.

Very true.

Langston Hughes should be much better known. His work is great set to music. Thanks for this.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
