This is Second Suite in F for Military Band by Gustav Holtz. It is one of the first pieces that my college wind ensemble played after I met my future husband. He had the euphonium solo that occurs in the piece. It remains one of my favorites.
Holst is one of a group of English conposers whose work is very accessible. I'd include in that group Delius, Parry, Finzi, and Williams...note how many are children of immigrants.
Catholics who sing "O God, Beyond All Praising" in church may not realize that melody is by Holst. It's called "Thaxted" after a village where Holst lived, and is also part of the Jupiter tune in his Planets suite.
I didn't realize (or didn't remember) that Holtz wrote "Oh God Beyond All Praising." I love hymns written by "classical" composers. They are always such good quality.
I'm definitely going to look into those 4 composers. I agree re: John Williams--he's phenomenal!
"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark

I'm sure you dh was awesome! Nice piece.
Holst is one of my daughter's favorite composers; this really reminds me of her. Thank you for posting it.
He was awesome! Of course, I was a bit biased, lol. But he had a great sound on euphonium.
I like Holst, too, Kindred.
