Scripture Saturday

Behold, I am with you always, until the end of time.

~Matthew 28:20

These words of Jesus, read last Thursday at the Feast of the Ascension are His last words to the disciples and indeed the last words of the Gospel of Matthew.

They exude hope to a world that sometimes seems abandoned by God.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
