Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexico winning a battle against the French. France actually established rule for a short time after that before Mexico won full independence, Britian and Spain having pulled out a short time before that battle. I actually think it's very sad that Spain and France war ever at war with Mexico in the first place. War is just not a good way to foster religious and economic goals. We are in the beginning of a period of dangerous oil wars mascarading as culture wars and so I kind of compare that with what Europe did and am saddaned. I am also saddened that like St Patricks Day, Cinco de Mayo has become one big drinking party. Mary sees the earth not as we do in a spirit of nationalsim. How does she see our planet and those of us on it? Does she take sides like war is a football game?!?!

I agree that Mary is certainly non-partisan. I think it would be equally adventageous to call on Mary to bless our country for our 4th of July as well.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
