First Communion

As it is customary in many U.S. parishes to have First Holy Communion in May, let us say a special prayer for all those who will be making their First Holy Communion this month.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity or Our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for my sins and the sins of the whole world;

That's a beatiful picture. I remember my First Holy Communion and it was the beginning of an adventure with God!

This is one of the most beautiful pictures that I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing it and for encouraging us to pray. I said that prayer.

God Bless!

I still have my First Communion prayerbook. A little worse for the wear.

Looking at that picture, I remembered the date of my First Communion: May 8th, 1948. It startled me, since my daughter died 3 years ago...on May 8th.

I was raised in an orphanage and believe me, your First Communion was a Big Deal. After your First Confession, you got to spend the afternoon on the nun's porch, safe from the sinful rest of the group. And breakfast, after a long service, was quite special.

Of all the initiation of the sacraments, the invitation to one's first Eucharist remains the most meaningful.

Wow, Dymphna, what a story!! My first communion was very special to me too. I remember the child-like faith I had. It really helped me later in life to recall that and to try to get back in touch with that simple union with God.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
