More reality about tv

Television is classically abusive.

1) It isolates you from friends and family.
2) It pressures you sexually into activities you may not be comfortable with.
3) It is violent.
4) It continually belittles you.
5) Makes "jokes" that shame, humiliate, demean or embarrass you.

Hats off to dh for reminding me of this.

It is funny, but I meet many people who no longer subscribe to cable or satalite. They want to save their time for other things. That is what I do

Great. I actually don't have cable tv. I can't imagine paying money for television.

In the seminary where I am, we have television but not the cable! I only look at it for soccer's matches! ( for Rugby's matches, I go to the pubs!). But, I acknowledge that from time to time, I will prefer to have the cable to receive catholic chains: we have one in France which is called KTO (small pun = "catho"!). But we also fight to have this one, not-paying!

Our Catholic TV station here, EWTN is only on cable, so I do miss that. I do pay for Satellite radio and listen to EWTN. So, KTO is free in France?

Not, KTO would like to be free on access, but it is identical to ETWN, KTO is on the cable and thus, we must pay the cable to have KTO. But, there is a procedure to open free hertzian chains on the television on behalf of the State but the committee of evaluation (CSA) refused! Thus, There is a petition for a revaluation of the request for KTO to be diffused on a free chain !

I hope you get KTO one day for free! We are blessed to live in this age of Catholic communication!

I was raised without a TV, and I love it. My roommate has one in the house now, and its hooked up to the VCR and PlayStation. We rarely use it, in fact, the only time the roommate watches it is when she has the boyfriend over, so they can make out without having to say its all they do.

Another friend of mine turns the TV on as soon as she gets home and then we just sit there and talk during the commercials. Its a horrible, silent, awkward relationship when the TV is on.

All that just goes to prove your point, I guess.

I've noticed that too, sometimes. Having television as the crux of a relationship can make for a pretty awkward relationship.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
