My family and I are apparently in good company having a bat in the house.
The Catholic Review reports that Monsignor Richard E. Cramblitt, pastor of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Mount Washington, had a bat sleeping under the presider's chair during Mass recently. He said he hoped the large black snake he encountered in the rectory garage would take care of it.

Wow, bats and snakes? Even they find sanctuary in the Church! Wish more people would do the same.

Once I arrived to play for an evening Mass, and there was a bat curled up asleep on the mirror of the organ (it's in an upstairs loft, and the mirror is used to check out what's going on on the altar downstairs). I was afraid that once the music started the bat would wake up, but it slept all through Mass! It wasn't in the belfry, but close!
Wow! That's a cool story! Glad for you the bat didn't wake up while you were playing! DH and I do the music for our church in the choir loft. I don't know what I would have done if a bat had flown around during Mass if I'd been up there. Screamed, probably.
