Sunday Snippets, A Catholic Carnival

Sunday Snippets is brought to you each week by RAnn at This, That and the Other Thing.

Lots to go over today in Sunday Snippets.  I talked about the dove which accompanied Cardinal de Araujo Sales to his final place of rest, the fact that America is now a mission country for the Church, and Sts. Joachim and Ann, grandparents of Jesus.

For Music Monday, we listened to Girl from Impanema written 50 years ago and for Art and Beauty Tuesday we looked at a mosaic from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

I also want to highlight a very clearly-written Sojourner article called Clinging to Christ in Compound Grief, included in this week's 7 Quicktakes Friday.  It is well worth reading about this Colorado author's focus coming out of the tragedy that has taken place there.  It seems an answer to another Friday article, How the Decline in Community is Affecting Your Parish.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
