The Importance of Stability

Today's reading from the second letter of St. Peter talks about waiting for the coming of the Lord while making sure to "be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability."

We often fall into the error that we must attain heights of holiness to be "worthy", when in reality, God may be calling us principally to the virtue of stability.  In these troubled times where Christianity is openly mocked, merely continuing to live out our Christian calling, attending Mass, going to Confession, and being involved in our parish, *is* moving toward holiness.

Do not discount the importance of the everyday Christian life.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
