Feast of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque,
to whom Jesus revealed His immense love for mankind
through His Sacred Heart,
intercede for us who remain on earth,
struggling day by day.
Help us to know His love.
Help us to show His love.
Help us to be His love.

~Amen

You are precious in my eyes.  You are honored, and I love you.  ~Isaiah 43:4

Giving Our Pain to Christ

In the course of every activity pray as follows: “My God, [I do this] or [I endure that] in the heart of your Son and according to his holy counsels. I offer it to you in reparation for anything blameworthy or imperfect in my actions.

Continue to do this in every circumstance of life. And every time that some punishment, affliction, or injustice comes your way, say to yourself: “Accept this as sent to you by the Sacred Heart of Jesus in order to unite yourself to him.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Today is the feast of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque whose vision of Christ on December 27, 1673 during adoration, helped to advance devotion to the Sacred Heart.

Scripture says that
from within Him rivers of living water shall flow
~John 7:37
and he (was) pierced for our transgressions.
~ Isaiah 53:5
After his death for us on the cross,
one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water.
~John 19:34
Jesus invites each of us to
come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart. Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light
~Matthew 11:28-29

St.Margaret Mary

"Behold the heart that has so loved men ... "
~Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Today is the feast of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. She was born on July 22, 1647 in France of virtuous parents and had an intense love of the Blessed Sacrament. She fell ill and became paralyzed after practicing mortifications, but when she consecrated herself to religious life she was instantly cured.

After her family became impoverished due to the injustice of a relative, Margaret found consolation and comfort in the Blessed Sacrament. She entered the Visitation convent in 1671 where she was made to undergo many trials to prove her vocation.

Jesus appeared to her and asked her to establish the First Friday of every month as a day of receiving Holy Communion and making a Holy Hour as a way to share in the suffering He endured on the last Friday of His life. He also asked that the Feast of the Sacred Heart be established.

Happy Feast Day to all those who are named after this saint, and all those with a devotion to the Sacred Heart.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
