The Ground is Shifting

My father-in-law told me once that when he hit 50, he began to realize the extent to which he did not know anything.

I'm 52 and this hits me every day.  It is a bit disconcerting and disorienting.  I'm a grandmother and instead of basking in the "old and wise" stage of life, I feel as though I know nothing and that nothing is sure anymore. Nothing.

I used to be fairly sure of my "place" among my friends and family, but no more. My perspective has shifted so much in the last couple of years.  It's very, very odd.

For those of you approaching this age, don't get too comfortable. The ground is about to shift.

I am fast approaching 48. I am pretty sure of things, but the one thing I cannot be sure of is heaven because that is up to God. Living my life to the best of my ability, and trying to be a good Christian is all i can do. Of that, I'm 100% sure.

I've just gotten back to blogging (as you can see!) after a long hiatus. Good to see you again, Michele!

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
