Poetry Wednesday--Hildegarde of Bingen

Antiphon to the Trinity
(Laus Trinitati)

To the Trinity be praise!
God is music, God is life
that nurtures every creature in its kind.
Our God is the song of the angel throng
and the splendor of secret ways
     hid from all humankind,
But God our life is the life of all.

~Hildegarde of Bingen (1098-1179)

I have several recordings of Hildegarde von Bingen's music. She was such an accomplished woman and so close to God. Today's feminists could learn a lot from her, but I believe they don't want to do what was basic to her accomplishments: surrender to God. Thanks for posting this lovely poem.

I'm going to have to look on YouTube for her music.

I love the picture ... how it captures the light coming through the window to the writer. Beautiful. Writing comes from inspiration.

Very true. Good point.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
