Music Monday--Ave Maria by Josquin des Prez

Josquin's Ave Maria is one of my favorites and I was blessed enough to sing it in college.  I especially like the end:  O Mater Dei, memento mei. Amen! (Oh, Mother of God, remember me! Amen!)  It is written to be sung with such hushed emotion!

This was one of my Mom's favorites. Any idea where the picture is from?

This particular Ave Maria was one of your mom's favorites? I didn't know that! Its one of mine too.

According to the YouTube channel, the picture was taken in St. Eustache in Paris and is of St. Therese, the Little Flower.

Love this kind of music. I have some recordings of des Prez's music. It's like a little bit of heaven here on earth.

Thanks. I think Liturgy should be heaven on earth.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
