Scripture Saturday

That is why Christ died and came to life again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
~Romans 14:9

This quote from today's morning prayer made me think not only of the literally deceased, but of the spiritually and pschologically "dead". Christ is Lord of them as well as of the "living".  He is Lord of those who have given up and have stopped trying.  He is Lord of those who have no hope.

We need to make sure that we, as a Church open our hearts and our parishes to the marginalized of the world and welcome them as Christ would.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
