Special Intentions

I just found out that an internet friend has died.  Her son posted to her Facebook account.  We are all in shock.

I also just found out, via Facebook, that another friend from high school has untreatable cancer and is on hospice.

This really seems to be happening all at once.  I don't know why that seems to occur, and I have no words except that some things are just not important in comparison.

Sorry to hear about your internet friend. Prayers for her and her family. My condolences to you.

Of course, I am also praying for our high school friend.

My mother used to say, "It comes in threes." Often that does seem true. I think during the darkest parts of the year those with terminal illnesses and the elderly tend to pass away more quickly. Just as we slow down and feel the affects, so do they ... maybe even stronger.

I hadn't heard about the correlation between the darkest time of the year and passing away. My dad died, as you know, in November. Interesting.

Thanks so much.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
