D-Day--Let us never give up the rights they fought for

Today is the sixty-fifth anniversary of D-Day--the Allied invasion of Normandy, France.

For those of us who are so far removed from the actual event (and we are even 20 years removed from the 45th anniversary commemoration that took place in France), this film of George Hicks reporting, with footage in color, the events of D-Day as they occurred, brings the invasion and the war home to us as something that actually happened and not something that we merely commemorate every year.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
