Our Lady of Fatima

Today is the feast of Our Lady of Fatima. On May 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal and urged them to pray the rosary for world peace. She told them that
the war (World War I) is going to end; but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that he is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.
Our Lady is our mother. She wishes us to draw closer to her Son. Cry out to her and ask her to share your journey in this world that you may live forever with Christ in the next.

To read all of Mary's words to the children of Fatima, go to Theotokos.org, one of the best and most reliable sites on approved apparitions in the Church.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
