Figure Eight

In spite of my intense dislike of all things math, this is my favorite School House Rock. (This and Conjunction Junction, of course.)

When I watch this, I can't help but wonder if today's kids know what a figure 8 in skating is, now that they no longer require it as part of "figure skating" in the Olympics.

One of my favorites is "Three is a Magic Number," and the one where the count by 5s. Memories. DS used to love the videos. I've since passed them on.

I wish I had been able to view these over and over as a kid instead of waiting for them to come on on Saturday mornings. I may have learned math that way!

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
