Save The Words!

Save The Words asks you to adopt a word in danger of being taken out of the dictionary from lack of use.

My words so far?

Jobler, long play, cloakatively and ten cent store.

Where is "ice box"? That's what I want to know.

Did you check on juxtaposition? I'd hate to lose that word, if I even spelled it correctly.

Hmmm...since the inclusion of these words in the dictionary is based on use, and, college English professors will keep using juxtaposition, I think we're safe on that one!

This is weird. You said "we're SAFE on that one!" and your word verification is safen. Humming the Twilight Zone Theme.

How about all these famous nonsense words from Lewis Carroll:

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Sorry couldn't help myself :-)

:) Well, most of the words on that site *are* nonsense words to those of us who've never heard them! That's why I picked the words I did. I either knew them or they made enough intrinsic sense to me that I'd be likely to remember them.

Dymphna's favorite quotes

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
