It Really Works!

Image and video hosting by TinyPicThirty years ago, a lady my husband worked with at a marina in Southern Maryland, told him a secret to avoid crying while chopping onions: Keep your mouth closed. Breathe through your nose. Do not talk. Do not open your mouth.

The trick is to remember this before you start chopping the onion!

But, it does work.

Are you sure about this? Of course in order to keep my mouth closed that means I have to stop talking. I'm telling you, it out right burns my eyes and they tear -- a lot. But I'll try it the next time I peel and onion and let you know.

I just chopped an onion today and actually remembered to do this and it worked. Every other time, I'm breathing through my mouth, or talking without realizing it until my eyes become unusable!

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
