RIP George Carlin

Seventy-one year old George Carlin has died of heart failure.

Known for pushing the envelope of the FCC, Carlin's routine got him arrested in 1972 for disturbing the peace, and went all the way to the Supreme Court. So, he either blazed the trail, or ushered in the fall of Western Civilization, whichever perspective you care to take.

More recently, he played Filmore the green Volkswagen bus on Disney's Cars.

In what I will always see as an amazingly ironic twist, Carlin became known to the children and grandchildren of some of his original fans, as Mr. Conductor in the PBS children's series Shining Time Station, of Thomas the Tank Engine fame. He wasn't the original Mr. Conductor, though. That was Ringo Starr.

Rest in peace, George Carlin.

i always found him to be hilarious, though some of his views on religious things i clearly was put off by. now, i don't limit God's grace or mercy, and i think there's a good chance that the Almighty is laughing w/ carlin right now, saying "see, george, I am REAL!"

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
