Dick Martin, of TV's Laugh In, the irreverent comedy of the 1960's died Saturday in a hospital in California of respiratory complications at the age of 86.

IIRC, Dick Martin went on to become a director; I saw his name attached to the credits of many of the Newhart episodes. (Bob's second series, of course.)

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
