Eerie coincidence

Ok, this is creepy. Yesterday, March 10, was my mom and aunt's birthday, right?

Apparently, March 10 is also the anniversary of the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell.

The career my aunt was in from 1945-1980?

Bell Telephone operator.

Way cool to know your mom is Lily Tomlin. ;-)

I'm old enough to know how to run an old PBX switchboard and it is waaaaay fun.

My grandma's first job was as a switch board operator. It was considered a pretty "wild" job for a woman.

Happy birthdays to your Mom and Aunt!

Wow, Adrienne! You know how to operate those old switchboards?!? I'm impressed!

My aunt used to tell us that the telephone operators knew all the town "news" before everyone else because they had to put through all the calls. She remembers when calling someone on the phone consisted of saying something like this, "Mabel? This is Gertrude. Can you put me through to the Smith's?"

It was like having your own private secretary! Except the party lines, of course!
