I would add, read something of the daily office of readings some time during the day to set the emotional pace of the day. Go to daily Mass if you can. Pray the Rosary on the way to work or before going to sleep.
Let go and let God.

This has definitely changed my first hours of the day, but assiduity is such a challenge :-)
Letting God drive our day's pace is indeed the way for Christians. Monks are here to remind us obediance to the three masters: the abbey, the rule and... the bell.
I like that! I think modern Christians need the examples of the monastics more than ever. It is more difficult than ever as well.
