God's Autumn wisdom

From Recipes from a Monastery Kitchen:

As the trees let go of their leaves, so we too, must let go of our encumbrances. And as we let go of all that is superfluous and unneccessary in our lives, we receive the gift of inner peace. Ultimately, this is autumn's greatest gift to us.

Wow, that's beautiful. Have you read C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce? There are some ideas and passages in there about death and salvation that are kinda like this one. I'm reading that Lewis book now and it's wonderful, I highly recommend it.

"Slavery ended in medieval Europe only because the church extended its sacraments to all slaves and then managed to impose a ban on the enslavement of Christians (and of Jews). Within the context of medieval Europe, that prohibition was effectively a rule of universal abolition. "— Rodney Stark
